Auckland's community recycling centres - this is what getting social procurement right looks like

Updated: May 17, 2018

Auckland Council is establishing a network of community recycling centres which divert material from landfill. This re-using of items and re-purposing of materials also benefits the local community through affordable items and job creation. Council is aiming to build a network of 12 centres across the district to contribute to the goal of zero waste Auckland by 2040.

So far, all five contracts that have been let to date, via a competitive RfP process, have been won by social enterprises. The tenders included non-price attributes such as community development and sustainability, each worth 10% in the tender scoring.

Check out some of the centres:

- Waiuku Zero Waste

- Global Action Plan Oceania

- Hibiscus Coast Zero Waste
